Urbana 2003 Points Students Toward Missions
Urbana 2003, the latest version of the triennial conference which
is famous for jump-starting mission careers, looks to have done it again. The
conference, held Dec. 27-31 on the campus of the University of
Illinois at Urbana, was a time of seeking God’s will for their lives for nearly
20,000 delegates. Now the meetings are over, but this is only
the beginning for many
students as they launch out on their lifetime of service to God. The main focus of this conference, is to acquaint students
with what God is doing worldwide and challenge them to become involved in what
God is doing—either where they live and study or overseas. This year’s theme for Urbana was “Your Kingdom Come, Your
Will Be Done,” and conference speakers challenged students to live out their
Christianity so that there will be no doubt they are Christians. Students were
urged to make use of the time that we have in light of Christ’s soon return. Held every three years, this special convention has been
impacting and changing lives for over sixty years. It brought together college
students, missionaries, and church and campus leaders—all worshiping together
and seeking God’s will. It was a marvelous opportunity for attendees to learn of
God’s passionate love for the world through Bible study, prayer, seminars,
exhibits, and challenging speakers. Urbana Conference is sponsored by
InterVarsity Ministries. AMG International was once again an exhibitor during
Urbana. The theme of our display this year was “Are you puzzled about God’s
purpose for your Life?” This was followed up by several questions: “Where do
you fit?” “Wondering how you can interlock with other believers?” and “What
happens when life doesn’t turn out like the picture on the box?” The display
invited students to find their place of service to God in the ministries of
AMG. AMG was overjoyed by the number of responses from students
stopping by our exhibit to ask about career, mid-term, and short-term
opportunities for serving God. We spoke with students with majors in education,
business, journalism, biochemistry, sociology, Bible, Spanish, electrical
engineering, medicine, communication, law, and many other fields. These
students showed a keen desire to use their gifts, abilities and training in
service to God, and we were able to share opportunities that matched their
unique desires and gifts. Already ministering in a variety of ways in 53 countries
around the world, AMG continues seeking to expand its ministries. If you or
someone in your congregation is interested in career service, a mid-term
opportunity lasting from three months to two years, or if you are interested in
participating in a short-term trip, please contact AMG at 1-800-251-7206, or
