"God and Guinness" Inducement for Post-Moderns

Two Episcopal priests in Overland Park, Kansas, are exploring a way to "make religion more significant" to the post-modern generation by hosting weekly discussion groups in a local bar. "My conviction is that people of my age group are a little timid about walking through church doors," said Lisa Senuta, a priest at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She and Helen Svoboda-Barber, serving as an associate pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park, hit upon using beer as an enticement after reading about a similar program tried in England. "We said, ‘we need to have church in a bar,'" Svoboda-Barber said.
