Message of Hope for Imperiled Filipinos

The southern Philippines area has been plagued by terrorism and by groups such as the Abu Sayyaf. But now that voters in the area have rejected a plan to expand Muslim self-rule, Far East Broadcasting Co. (FEBC) in the Philippines is starting "Project Salem," aimed at addressing the effects of the terrorism.

"Most people in that region hate the terrorism and they live in great fear of this group, Abu Sayyaf," said FEBC's Jim Bowman. "This is a violent group, and the local citizens live in great terror." Project Salem provides an opportunity to minister to believers and share Christ's love with non-Christians. "Our role is to bring the peace of Christ to people's lives and to help them cope with these situations. This project is to send teams in and learn more about what people are having to put up with, and then go back and produce broadcasts that really minister to people," Bowman said.
