Don't Turn Preferences Into Doctrines

…When the critics' churches are growing disciples and reaching the lost the way churches like Saddleback are, then let them write their critiques again. Hymns can still be used in meaningful ways today, I agree, but hymns themselves were a way of "contemporizing" the music to the culture in which they were written….Styles are not sinful, people are. Please, let's not turn our preferences into doctrines for all to follow….How will we ever reach the lost if they never see the church in action (John 13:35)? I have to wonder how many people are coming to receive Christ in the churches of those who think that playing hymns and using the organ are the only choices for Christian music today.
