NEA Drops Homosexual Resolution

Faced with hundreds of Christian activist protestors at its convention in early July, the National Education Association (NEA) dropped consideration of a resolution that would support homosexuality in the classroom. NEA officials said the teachers union would instead form a task force to explore the issue "in a holistic, reasoned way" before taking any further action.

The resolution would advocate development of programs that address needs of homosexual, bisexual, and transgender students. It also would require the involvement of homosexual educators in curriculum development and lessons on the heritage, culture, and history of homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people.
