Huge Gift Staggers Little Church

A big money gift is weighing heavily on members of a small church. St. Mary's United Methodist Church in St. Mary's, Wash., received a gift of $60 million last fall-enough to pay its annual budget for the next 210 years, according to news reports. Warren Bailey, who attended the church as a child, left the money when he died at age 88.

Parishioners and church leaders were reported at a loss for what to do with it. "The Bible has a lot to say about money," Pastor Derek McAleer told the New York Times. "Most of the time it's a warning." Leaders have decided that they won't use the gift to pay the church's annual budget, according to news reports.
